Kelair-Blivet™ for Sewage Treatment by Kelair Pumps Australia

Case Study
Sales Engineer Mark Butterfield (NSW)

Blivet treats sewage so simply

Kelair's packaged sewage treatment plant (STP), the Kelair-Blivet™ is a simple, robust, system that requires no operators, little power, and is ideal for remote locations where customers want a water treatment system they can set and forget.

This ability to run with no supervision and little maintenance has attracted many customers to the Blivet and was one of the key factors in Kelair being awarded a contract to supply two STPs to treat and irrigate a total of 14,000L waste water/day at a mine site in north-western WA.

The customer's applications consisted of maintenance areas and some accommodation. The population using these buildings would be stable throughout the year. The STPs would treat the waste water produced by up to 200 people. Access into and around the irrigation was restricted and controlled, so above-ground irrigation systems could be used.

Kelair supplied a Blivet for each STP, one BL300 and one BL500, and a chlorination/ detention tank and containerised plant room for each STP as well, which housed the sodium hypochlorite dosing system, control panel and irrigation pumps.

In keeping with the Blivet's principle of simple, robust operation, the control system was designed to be completely relay-based, avoiding PLC control and so allowing electrical repairs to be conducted by any qualified electrician without special equipment.

The straightforward design of the STP also kept the power consumption to a minimum, with each STP requiring about 18kW/day, split between the Blivet (12kW/day) and the rest of the system.

To make the installation simple, Kelair supplied each STP as three components: the Blivet, chlorination tank, and plant room, which were all prewired with connecting cabling.

This careful packaging made the installation so easy that despite initially contracting Kelair to install the STPs, the customer decided to install and commission themselves, which they did successfully.
