Tensile Membrane Canopy from Tension Span Structures

Tension Span Structures Pty Ltd designed and manufactured the custom made tension membrane canopy for this shade structure installed in the cathedral town of Enniscorthy, Ireland. Situated on the banks of the River Slaney, this four star hotel has created an external room for its patrons by enclosing the deck overlooking the river. Tall panels of toughened glass surround the deck, with the double conic tensioned canopy providing a vaulted ceiling for patrons to relax beneath.

The membrane is made from PTFE fabric which has a class 0 fire rating, a critical requirement as heating units were to be attached to the structure. PTFE (Teflon coated glass) fabrics have an impressive life expectancy, and are UV resistant, non-combustible and possess a very high tensile resistance. Due to the smooth Teflon surface of the PTFE fabric, the tension membrane structure is washed clean whenever it rains, reducing the need for additional cleaning. PTFE fabric is the ideal choice for a tension membrane canopy distinguished by its prolonged durability, low maintenance, fire rating and tensile strength.
