Sydney Iconic Club Gets Floor Safety Overhaul

Bondi Icebergs owes its origin in 1929 to the desire of a band of dedicated local lifesavers trying to maintain their fitness during the winter months. The Club is located next to the world famous Bondi beach and is is the only licensed Winter Swimming Club in the world.

The managing agent during its regular safety review identified some potential issues and contacted Global Safe Technologies Australia for a more comprehensive safety and disability compliance overview.

A Global Safe representative attended the site and after inspection, provided the managing agent with a comprehensive review regarding to current floor safety and Disability (Access to Premises) standard 2010 legislation compliance.

For the stair nosing, the Safe Grip Ultimate product was suggested by Global. The product has had extensive testing using the accelerated wear testing method and this testing has shown the Safe Grip Ultimate product to have a very high slip resistive quality, providing a sustainable slip resistive solution. For the disability issue Global proposed to use the yellow discrete tactile ground surface indicators using the drill and hammer installation method.

The recommendations were accepted and a team of accredited installers carried out the work. The work has been carried out over several weeks as the pool is only closed for a period of 24 hours a week.

The project was completed within the specified constraints and the surface has been independently tested by a NATA accredited slip resistance company. The test results ensured that the anti slip nosing across the complex now has a Very Low notional contribution of the floor surface to the risk of slipping when water wet. The stair nosing also has the required luminance contrast to make it fully compliant with the Disability Standard 2010 and AS 1429.4:2009 specifications.

Global Safe and its accredited applicators are the only ones on the market offering and independent slip resistance testing as part of of any commercial project.

Feedback from on site management is excellent. They indicated their total satisfaction with the quality of the workmanship and the professionalism and dedication of the application team during the entire project. Stage 2 of the project will be commencing soon.
