Licensed asbestos removal with Solar Cool

Despite tough legislation brought in by the NSW Government on the correct handling of asbestos roofs over 50 sq metre's, requiring that asbestos can only be handled or removed by companies and individuals holding a government approved asbestos removal licence, it is a concern that some companies still repair their own asbestos roofs and even carry out asbestos removal in order to save on costs.

These companies risk hefty fines from WorkCover, endanger employees and the surrounding community and leave themselves wide open to future legal action.

As of 1st January 2008, the second stage of these new regulations, first introduced back in January 2007, will come into effect and the area of asbestos roofing will be reduced to 10 sq metre's, bringing more companies and commercial roofs under the banner of the legislation.

Why This Legislation Is Necessary
Many of us have lived with asbestos all our lives. It is all too easy to downplay a danger that is commonplace and to doubt the possible serious complications. Because of this, some companies may have adopted the 'It can't happen to us' mentality, effectively putting the wider community at risk.

The key danger of asbestos is its ability to unravel and separate ad infinitum until the fibres are so microscopic they enter easily into the lungs. These fibres can be spread by the wind or washed down storm water drains. Because of this, even slightly damaged asbestos roofs can be a danger.

Total Asbestos Roof Removal May Not Be Necessary
Some asbestos roofs may still be in good repair, making owners reluctant to attend to this danger-in-waiting. Fortunately, companies specialising and fully licensed in asbestos roofing advise asbestos roof removal, either partial or total, may not be necessary.

Sydney based, Solar Cool, who specialise in commercial roofing, advise the secure, economical asbestos encapsulation procedure is often the better option.

Asbestos encapsulation involves permeating the asbestos roofing with a binding compound then coating with a highly durable, adhesive heat reflective membrane, which also acts as an effective roof insulation.

Solar Cool say encapsulation is the safest method of asbestos roof restoration and comes in around 66% cheaper than asbestos roof removal and replacement. The process allows business to proceed much as usual with little to no loss of production.

The company, who carry Asbestos Insurance underwritten by Lloyds of London and have achieved Australian Paint Approval Scheme (APAS) approval, also advises if damage and weathering is too extensive, asbestos roof removal will be necessary and must be carried out by licensed professionals according to guidelines set down by WorkCover.
