No dry running on lime slurry application

A customer approached Kelair to find a pump that would be suitable for pumping lime slurry for a water treatment application as they were concerned about the risk of damaging their helical rotor pump in the event of it running dry.

They needed a pump that could not only tolerate dry-running but would also be capable of handling small solids without blocking.

The application involved intermittent pumping and a compressed air supply was available so an air-operated double diaphragm pump was considered to be a suitable option.

In order to fully satisfy the customer's requirements a Sandpiper 25mm heavy-duty flap valve pump was selected and installed due to its superior solids-handling capability (up to a 25mm solid) com-pared with a regular ball valve diaphragm pump (6mm solid).

As with all Sandpiper pumps the heavy duty flap valve series features Sandpiper's Externally-Serviceable Air Distribution System (ESADS) which offers easy access to the air system components without the need to totally disassemble the pump or remove it from the pipework. ESADS is also lubrication free and comes with a non-stalling guarantee to provide optimum reliability and peace of mind - especially in process applications where the on/off reliability of the pump is of paramount importance.

The Sandpiper heavy duty flap valve pump performed beyond the customer's expectations and as a result they have purchased several other pumps for use in a variety of solids-handling applications.

These pumps are available in several sizes to enable solids of up to 75mm in diameter to be pumped at flows of up to 960 litres per minute and a maxi-mum shut-off head of 7 bar.
