Scando Hoist Overcomes Building Site Constrainsts from Alimak Hek

Alimak Hek work with site management to overcome space constraints at Icon Construction's Waterside Apartments.
Located in the heart of Port Melbourne, Icon Construction's Waterside Apartments will feature 120 apartments over six levels, with two basement levels of car parking. Construction on the project began in July 2011 and is due for completion in October 2012 at an estimated value of $30.7m.
In February 2012, Alimak Hek installed a Scando 650 25/39 hoist on site to provide access for men and materials during the apartment tower construction. Limited site space, the result of the U-shaped arrangement of the building flanked on all sides by busy city laneways, required the hoist to be engineered as close to the building structure as possible. As a result, Alimak Hek technicians required the use of a site crane to maneuver the hoist into position at the base of the tower.
Given space constraints on site, the Scando hoist was installed unusually close to both the tower crane and the building structure. Consequently, the jumping sequence of the hoist became crucial in ensuring the mast, when installed to its full height, would not obstruct the crane path. For this reason, the rooftop gate and top mast section of the hoist were left detached until the crane was removed from site.
The Alimak Scando 650 was in operation on the Port Melbourne site, providing access to the six landings of the construction tower, until July 2012. As the site crane had previously been removed, and the size of the hoist and mast sections prevented a hand-dismantle, Alimak technicians utilized a 200-ton mobile crane to dismantle the hoist, mast and k-frame enclosure and remove from site.
"The installation and dismantle of the unit was carried out professionally and as quickly as possible, and all jumps and servicing were carried out as scheduled. Alimak team members were flexible in fitting in service and jumps within our busy construction day, carrying out works where possible during breaks and after hours." - Andrew Matiszak, Icon Constructions
