NEWS ARTICLE ARCHIVESFlush Finish Stone Cladding with StoneClip![]() Project: 111 North Steyne, Manly Sub-Contractor: Pierre Ayoub - Elite Stonemasons Pty Ltd We were the chosen subcontractors to complete the installation, the contract was awarded to the tiling company doing the work on that building. The stone used was of various sizes, however the main part was 1700x800x30mm travertine which was imported from turkey. It was very hard material. You can see from the pictures, the architect wanted to achieve a flush finish to all the stonework, and at the same time have recessed Aluminium sections in between with LED lighting top and bottom.
The block walls were all built plumb over the 4 storeys high, and the aluminium sections were approximately 150mm deep on top of approximately 20mm cement render. Therefore our stone cladding had to overhang maximum of 170mm past the block walls (measurements vary over the height of the building). The engineers in charge of the project could only specify mechanical fixings for the project, but no design was ever drawn. This is where Stoneclip came in. With the help of StoneClip, we were able to design the fixing methods and get it approved by the engineer. This included the installation of vertical 65mm Stainless Steel Unistruts with Chemset anchors, as well as the use of the 12mm pins, 6 for each panel. All fixings were concealed, as well as the boxed section which had to be bolted to the edge of the balcony with Unistruts welded to it. All work was completed by Elite Stonemasons, with myself being onsite all the time. NONE of the work was subbied out to anyone. I have to say, that the fixing methods of Stoneclip are by far the best mechanical fixings I have used to date. Although they might take a bit more time to setup and get used to them, the speed and ease of installation throughout the job, along with the excellent engineering data accompanying them, makes them my preferred choice for mechanical fixings.
