Italian Porphyry stone surfaces
Porphyry stone is an effusive volcanic rock and comes naturally subdivided in
parallel slabs. The structure allows to obtain, with little processing (splitting/transport)
and use of water, a finished product that is sustainable and has limited greenhouse impact.
Cobblestones and tiles vary in thickness (from 40/60 to 160/180mm).
The size and shape allows the traditional installation on a fry mix of washed sand and 3mm
crushed basalt. The paved surface is then compacted while filling the joints with fine sand
and water creating a permeable substrate.
