Many floor tiles become slippery when wet. There are three basic types of non-slip floor applications available in the market today - non-slip floor coatings, non-slip floor etches, and non-slip floor treatments.

Non-slip floor coatings are a short-term solution. Floor coatings are made up of a carrier substance (often a paint or sealer) into which a gritty material is broadcast or mixed to increase slip resistance. Pedestrians aquaplaning across wet floors cause most slip and fall accidents. If pedestrians step onto a wet floor and the floor lacks adequate porosity to displace the water under the pressure of a pedestrians foot, there is a high risk of a slip and fall accident.
