Walter Reid Reserve Restoration & reproduction of 1860s cast iron work Part of this project for the Oxford St Reserve in Paddington involved the site cleaning of 66 cast iron capitals and bases, as well as the supporting beams for the reservoir roof. Working on scaffolding with air-tools fitted with needle guns, the original cast iron work was cleaned and surface treated. Any damaged pieces were recast in high ductile strength iron and installed. Applying specialized knowledge in metal coatings, the team finished the castings to a rich brown patina. Cast a decorative covering for the 'Valve Chamber' at the entrance of the Reservoir. This octagonal casting measured 3.5 meters across and was made in 9 sections. It weighs in excess of 2.5 ton. It was cast in high strength ductile iron and installed onto a supporting steel frame.
