Altair® Louvre Windows in a Luxury Pole Home at Trinity Beach, FNQ - (As seen on Grand Designs Australia)

This extraordinary three hundred square meter Balinese inspired "pavilion-style" luxury pole home (located in Climate Zone 1) at Trinity Beach in Far North Queensland and was designed by multi-award winner Chris Van Dyke. The spectacular masterpiece is perched up high on an ambitious hillside, bordering a World Heritage rainforest and overlooks the Great Barrier Reef to capture the natural beauty of what Mother Nature has to offer.

Although the project presented many challenges, the result is a beautifully designed energy efficient house that consists of four separate living areas, interconnected by outdoor raised walkways that extend through the forest.

natural ventilation design

With hot summers and mild winters, an average house in Climate Zone 1 will use more energy for cooling than for heating. Therefore each pavilion in this home is comprised almost entirely of Altair Louvre Windows with clear glass blades to take advantage of the ocean views and hilltop breezes to maximise natural ventilation without the need for artificial cooling systems.

The fresh air that filters through the Altair Louvre Windows significantly improves the comfort and indoor air quality for building occupants to enjoy. Timber and Satina Glass blades are also strategically placed around the home to provide privacy when closed, fresh natural air when open and reduces the amount of solar heat gain through the windows.
