SOUNDPAINT (SP150)
DAMPING COMPOUND

Soundpaint is a water based damping compound of synthetic resin and fillers suitable for spraying or trowelling onto surfaces to eliminate vibration noise. It works on a wide variety of material, eg. metal, plastic, timber.
Application:
Soundpaint is ideally suitable for applying in 1mm thick coats to achieve the required thickness, requiring only 15 minutes drying time between applications. Soundpaint can be applied to areas such as car, truck and bus underbodies, boat hulls, enclosure panels, metal deck roofs, heavy earthmoving equipment and timber or metal floors.

(ATF Report 592)

Benefits:

  • Excellent damping characteristics over the frequency range
  • Fast drying
  • UV stabilised, water, grease and oil resistant
  • Hard wear resistant surface when dry
  • Eliminates ringing and tinning noise in metal structures
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Applicators can be washed out in water
  • Able to be painted over
  • Non toxic
  • Sprayable with airless spray gun
  • Ignition retardant

Options:

  • Available with non slip surface texture
  • Colours can be matched to customer's specifications
  • Viscosity can be adjusted to customer's requirements

Application Instructions
Areas to be covered must be thoroughly cleaned and dried before applying Soundpaint

Manual Applicators

Hand mix the Soundpaint to ensure consistency. Smear the compound onto the surface with a putty knife or similar tool. Working from the centre apply thin coats of Soundpaint, multiple coats may be required to obtain the right thickness. For best results apply a number of thin layers, allowing to dry between coats.

Spray Applicators

When spraying Soundpaint, the compound must be stirred vigorously with a mechanical mixer to keep the paint thin.

  1. Air Spraying - the nozzle diameter should be minimum 4mm and the pressure kept between 250 and 340kPa
  2. Airless Spraying - the nozzle diameter should be 1mm and the pressure kept between 500 and 500kPa

Always keep the nozzle 250mm to 400mm from the surface when spraying the compound.
Guns should be immersed in water when not used to prevent the compound drying on the spray gun. All lines containing the damping compound should be cleaned with water after use.

Coverage

To obtain the best results, the finished wet layer (thickness) of the compound should be approximately 1 to 1.5 the metal thickness. One Litre of Soundpaint will cover one square metre at a dried thickness of 1mm. Depending on the humidity and ambient temperature the drying time for 1mm of Soundpaint can be as fast as 15 minutes.
