TONTINE SOUND BATTS
Acoustic Insulation like you've never felt before
Itch-free Sound Batts

Tontine Fibres
was established in 1870 and is a leading national manufacturer, supplying a diverse range of products to Australian Industry.
Today, as part of the Pacific Dunlop Group, we are introducing another innovative product. Using new technology, we are able to manufacture a "user friendly" insulation material for the Australian Building Industry.

No special safety equipment required
These days we are all conscious of pollutants in the workplace. Industry, Government and Unions, are continually striving to improve O.H.&S. standards. So the introduction of Tontine Sound Batts is a breath of fresh air.
Tontine Sound Batts have been tested by Work Cover NSW for respirable fibres. No respirable fibres were detected and it was indicated that no protective or encapsulated equipment is required for handling and installation.
No need for gloves, masks, protective clothing No gloves, no goggles, no mask. Just your usual work gear is O.K. And there are no special safety zones required in the work area.
Used under normal installation conditions, Tontine Sound Batts were found to be low irritant, have no incompatibilities with other products, and there are no special storage or handling requirements.

Comparative Testing
As with any product in the market, there are always questions as to its performance.
To be confident of Tontine Sound Batts performance in the field, Tontine Fibres has commissioned a series of comprehensive and exhaustive tests to ensure that the Acoustic Ratings, Fire Ratings and O.H.&S. properties comply with Industry standards.

Tests were conducted by Challis and Associates
(TSB 2, TSB 3, TSB 4 & TSB 5) in a steel stud wall
13mm plasterboard either side of 64mm studs at 600mm centres.

Tontine Sound Batts
were subjected to the scrutiny of some of Australia's most demanding independant testing authorities:

  • Challis & Associates Pty Ltd tested the acoustic ratings.
  • The Australian Wool Testing Authority tested for fire performance.
  • Work Cover Authority NSW monitored for respirable fibres.

Tontine Sound Batts passed all tests with flying colours.
All results complied with The Building Code of Australia and Industry Standards.
As our products are constantly being refined and improved to give you an even better product, ongoing testing and critical assessment is constantly in progress. Updates of the results will be available as they come to hand.

Installation
Tontine sound batts do not require encapsulation. Installation is a breeze. No gloves, no goggles, no mask. Just your usual work gear. Tontine Sound Batts are easy to tear across the width so it's easy to tear off lengths in a straight line. You won't need that sharp knife.

Then, using your standard short stapler, fasten the Sound Batt to the plaster at the top of the partition. Drop down to the bottom of the partition. Ensure the Sound Batt is tucked between the studs at all points.
Staple the Sound Batt to the back of the plasterboard. twice in the middle and twice at the bottom. Tear or cut off the excess, ensuring that the Sound Batt is tucked into the studs and track.
And that's about it ! Not too difficult really, and you probably haven't itched once. Remember, there is no need for encapsulation and no special safety zones required in the work area.
