"The Budda" Custom Carved Bass Relief Panels - Di Emme Creative Solutions
The theming department at Di Emme Creative was recently commissioned to fabricate large "Budda" bass relief carvings for the recently refurbished Thai Terrific restaurant at 147 Curlewis St, Bondi Beach in an effort to inject ambience and tranquility to the dining area of the restaurant.
Working closely with the restaurant owner of Thai Terrific and the Architect, Kevin Ng from Brian Mayerson Architects, the idea to transform this rather drab back wall into an amazing feature wall was only possible with the assistance from Di Emme Creative Solutions.
The Budda has significant religious meaning for the Restaurant owner and before the molding and caving process began, finding the right style of budda from the many different styles of Buddas was critical. Special attention was taken to find the right stance, and body shape. The architect eventually took a photograph of a budda featured in the restaurant owners home and Di Emme creative Solutions then assisted in superimposing the image into a series of repeat panel - to scale. Carving from real stone was simply out of the question for budget and logistical reasons. However the natural organic stone-like qualities had to be completely realistic, and include slight imperfections that would be have been inherent if the relief was carved from real stone.
The process of getting the texture right was critical. Having already specified Di Emme's designer product Stonini Profile Stone significantly throughout the restaurant, Di Emme suggested utilizing Stonini's lightweight composite material for the panels to keep the consistency of the stone-like look and feel. This composite material Di Emme use was instrumental in the relief panels being utlised, as it provided an extremely cost effective solution.
The panels were fabricated from a lightweight composite material. The panels cover an 8m wide x 2.4m high area and the client and owner was stunned by the overall effect.
The spiritual connection throughout the resaurant is evident and the restaurant owner is overwhelmed by the end result.
