The Multi Cyclone water saving device by Waterco

The Multi Cyclone, a new Australian-designed and patented swimming
pool filtration device, has just been awarded the 2007 Piscina Barcelona Sustainability
Award at the prestigious International Swimming Pool Exhibition, Piscina BCN, which was
held in Barcelona in October.
Designed by Waterco, this revolutionary product has no moving parts to wear and no
filter media to clean or replace.
The Multi Cyclone works on the basis of centrifugal water filtration.
Incoming water is guided by a diverter plate so that it enters multiple hydro cyclones
tangentially, generating a strong centrifugal effect. This spins the sediment out to
the hydro cyclone's wall and then spirals it down to the sediment sump, while the
cleansed water spirals upwards.
The accumulation of sediment can be visibly monitored through the MultiCylcone's clear
sediment sump. The MultiCyclone is cleaned by simply opening its purge valve. Only 15
litres of water is discharged to clean the MultiCyclone of sediment
Instigated by the Swimming Pool Exhibition and organized by the Catalan Institute of
Construction Technology, ITeC, judges reviewed a total of 63 products from 50 international
companies and judged the Multi Cyclone to be the best.
It is not very often that a company finds itself with a truly revolutionary product;
this is what we have with the Multi Cyclone. It is sure to change our concept of water
filtration.
The Multi Cyclone is ideal as a pre-filter and will extend the life of existing filters.
It works together with sand, diatomaceous earth or cartridge filters, fitting between
the pump and the existing filter. It filters out up to 80% of the incoming sediment before
the existing filter even gets to see the water. The end result is that the filter requires
less cleaning, saving water and time. For a sand filter, the water savings can be up to
5000 litres a year through less frequent back washing. Cartridge filters may only need to
be cleaned once every one or two years, depending on their size.
The Multi Cyclone is under world-wide patent pending and has just been released in Australia.
