Australian International Furniture Fair Wants Your Feedback


The AUSTRALIAN INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIR, HOTEL + HOSPITALITY FURNISHINGS and the co-located interiors fair DECORATION + DESIGN enjoyed strong attendance, with visitors keen to view future trends and buy stock from Australia's top manufacturers and wholesalers. The fair provided a backdrop of the latest furniture and furnishings launching in Australia this year. Read on for an overview of what happened in 2011.

THE EDGE 2011
The Edge design competition showcased the work of 46 of Australia's most promising furniture designers. Awards were announced across 4 categories and we congratulate the following winners;
Student; Daniel Mazi from UTS with his asymmetrical Contour Chair.
Green; Andrew Bezzina & Hugh Worthington of Chunk Design for their sustainable Tooths Stool
Commercial; Andrew Bezzina & Hugh Worthington of Chunk Design for their versatile Robots Stool
Concept; James Hargraves for his intricate lighting design, the Weft 056 Pendant.


INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY SEMINAR SERIES
Taking place inside the fair, the Seminar Series welcomed international speakers Janice Lindsay (Canada) and Mary Shaw (France). Janice discussed colour direction for 2011/12 and Mary spoke about creating ambiance for the home. The well received Seminar Series also welcomed Australian experts; Genty Marshall, WGSN's Heidi Dyt and architect Peter Ireland.


DESIGN FEATURES - A SHARED TABLE
Decoration + Design Sydney's 2011 feature area was curated by resident Trend Forecaster Genty Marshall. The Design Futures installation 'A Shared Table', explored the new lifestyle trends shaping design. There were 4 key areas on show, Connect, Create, Savour and Seduce, illustrating the way younger generations are challenging old conventions. Products were utilised from exhibitors such as Emily Ziz and Vixen & Velvet.


FLOORING AND FINISHES with ATFA
The inaugural Flooring & Finishes Show, held in conjunction with the Australian Timber Flooring Association (ATFA), saw 60+ leading exhibitors display the latest developments in design, texture, style, colour, safety, versatility and sustainability across all flooring and surface finishes. The free Flooring Demonstrations and Seminars held inside the fair were well attended.
