Water tanks still in demand according to KHD As the drought and water restrictions made headlines for many years in Australia, the popularity of water tanks in suburban areas was well documented. Despite the drought having been officially broken, this trend has continued in 2011 and tanks are now as popular as ever. Underground tanks are especially popular as block sizes continue to diminish. They are also more aesthetically pleasing, as the 20,000-litre tank needed by the average quarter-acre block can be quite an eyesore when installed fully above-ground.
