Unique Design Combined Umbrella Base Stand and Seating

Instant Shade Umbrellas were proud to supply our new Nova HD heavy duty telescopic commercial umbrellas for the 2012 Australian Open Tennis Tournament. These large 5m Octagonal umbrellas were used throughout Melbourne & Olympic Park to provide sun and rain protection to patrons and stuff.

A challenge of the project was securing the umbrellas without doing permanent installations. Normally the Nova HD umbrellas require installation to a concrete footing or existing concrete surface, but in this case this was not possible. Our engineers developed a solution that not only safely secured the umbrellas but also provided extra seating for patrons! Custom built steel frame and timber clad "boxes" hide the weight required to ballast the umbrella while providing a neat and convenient seat.

The umbrellas were left open during the entire length of the tournament and stood up to all the weather conditions Melbourne could throw at them over the course of two weeks.
