The Art of Merchandising from SI Retail

Visual merchandising is a great tool for retailers to transform shoppers into buyers and to increase their shopping baskets.

Given that products are increasingly similar across retailers, it is important to create a total shop experience with a carefully planned and executed visual merchandising strategy. Here are tips to help you create an outstanding display:

Accessibility of products

The products need to be easily accessible and any obstacles must be removed. Think about the morphology of your customers, kid's eyes are at a lower level than adults for example. If your clients are mums, they might come with 3 kids and a pushchair.

In this case, don't over crowd your aisles, make it easy for them to go around. If you want your shop to look spacious, try SI Retail Livewire cable shelving kit. With its uncluttered look, it is perfect for beauticians and hairdressers to promote additional merchandise.

We also offer great products for any small floor space unused in your shop. Our Spinner Slotwall Gondolas are only 460mm wide, they spin and they can be placed wherever you need. Those small gondolas can fill a void in store without impacting on your retail floor space.

Save even more space with our Hanging Displays - Ideal for ceiling space in warehouse and department stores, this signage system helps customers to find their way around your store for a more enjoyable experience.

Grabbing attention

Displays must grab customer's attention and hold it. Your display should tell a story, create an experience. Tie them up into themes; display a big product seller to catch consumer's eyes and then down bellow put higher margin products to encourage impulse purchases.

Product combination

Product combination is one of the most efficient ways to sell additional products by offering a product or service related to whatever customers are already buying. For example tops are always hung above trousers.

Think about grouping products with prices in mind. Consider putting options for different budgets. A fishing trip display could feature a rod, a set of hooks and a chair. Then, make sure your display is near aisles with related products. Place roof racks for fishing equipment or even sun cream near the fishing trip display. The key is to think of the entire experience.

At SI Retail, we have developed the perfect stand to create amazing displays all year round. Our Slotwall Gondola range is not only stylish and practical but it offers incredible flexibility. You can create a complete shopping experience by hanging tops under a shelf of pants, with shoes displayed on the right, jewellery on the left and your star product on the top of the gondola.

Display design

Designing a display is an art. Using colours, shapes, textures and sizes, retailers can attract the customer's attention; lead his eyes through the display and create resting points on important products. Repetition of colors or shapes allows the eyes to move across the display in one direction.

Additionally contrast is a good tool to highlight a product, a round item in a square display would stand out. Just make sure that your overall display is balanced. Imagine a line in the middle and try to balance the different colours and sizes of your products on each side of the imaginary line.
