Mandatory registration for Supported Independent Living (SIL) providers will commence on 1 July 2026, requiring all organisations delivering NDIS-funded SIL supports to register with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission to continue operating. The requirement applies to all SIL providers regardless of size, including digital platforms that connect participants with support workers.

Under the new framework, providers must meet the same regulatory obligations as other registered NDIS providers. These include independent quality and safety audits, formal worker screening for staff delivering SIL-funded supports, compliance with NDIS Practice Standards and strengthened incident management processes for reportable incidents and participant feedback. Policy development and market readiness activities began in early 2026, with transition guidance expected ahead of the July implementation date.
