Australian Engineering Excellence Awards 2011

Australia's Engineering Excellence Awards program encourages and celebrates engineering excellence by identifying, recognising and promoting excellence in the science and practice of engineering. The awards also provide peer recognition of engineering excellence, raise the profile of the profession and of local engineering, and highlight the contribution of engineers to the economy, to the community and to the environment.

Entries into the 2011 WA Engineering Excellence Awards are grouped into nine categories. Projects located anywhere in the world are eligible for entry, provided that a significant element of the engineering component was completed in Western Australia.

Leaking, dampness and/or corrosion in concrete structures do not win awards. Half of the winning projects acclaimed in the 2011 Engineering Excellence Awards used reinforced concrete containing Cementaid's unique Hydrophobic Pore-blocking Ingredients (HPI) - "Everdure CALTITE" or "3CC" - recognition of the direct link between concrete waterproofing, durability and overall project sustainability.

Winning projects in four out of the nine Award categories - Resource Development, Infrastructure & Building, Engineering Management, and Small Company Projects - as well as the Overall Winner, Southern Seawater Desalination Integration Project, all used reinforced concrete modified with Cementaid integral Hydrophobic Pore-blocking Ingredients (HPI) to successfully provide maintenance-free structural waterproofing and design-life durability. Engineers for the WA State Theatre Centre won the Small Company Projects Award outright, while the same project was additionally awarded a High Commendation in the Infrastructure & Building category.
