9am Keynote address: Professor Masao Fukuhara

Professor Fukuhara is a respected landscape architect from Osaka University, who is visiting Australia to conduct two masterclasses on "Creating Balance in City Life" on behalf of the International Specialised Skills Institute. As well as being a respected international landscape architect, Professor Fukuhara has written several articles, books and research papers, and fulfills various consultancy roles for the Organisation for Landscape and Urban Greenery Technology Development, and the Parks and Urban Green Space Association in Japan.

9:45 - 11am: Construction and Design Trends

This sessionw ill present a discussion on future design trends in Australia and around the world for public landscapes and will include a presentation of a commercial vertical garden recently completed by Phillip Johnson Sustainable Landscape Systems in Sydney.

11:20 - 12:40pm: Water

Water harvesting and storage are important issues for the future. Nick Van Diemen recently returned from an international fellowship and will discuss permeable paving and its application in the Australian context. Darrell Murray will discuss the challenges of planning and installing large-scale underground water storage systems.

1:30 - 2:50pm: The Changing Urban Landscape

Liveability, sustainability and population growth will impact on the relationship between people and spaces in the urban landscape. What will be the effects, challenges and opportunities that arise?

3:10 - 4pm: Panel discussion

Issues confronting the future of Australian Landscape.
