Adelaide Airport commissioned Stoddart Infrastructure to design, fabricate, and install two cantilevered roof walkways with custom perforated metal panels. For 58 years, Stoddart continues to be one of the go-to companies for custom stainless steel fabrication spanning a wide variety of applications in the building, architecture and foodservice industries. With their state-of-the-art machinery, in-depth knowledge and skills, and determination - Stoddart provides only the best products and solutions to suit every project's specifications.
In 2019, Adelaide Airport will have its centenary celebrations commemorating the first official long-haul flight from England to Australia. The Air Race of 1919 featured Adelaide brothers Ross and Keith Smith aboard a Vickers Vimy heavy bomber aircraft. The restored Vickers Vimy is located inside the building for public display, and is now the site of Vickers Vimy and Sir Ross' and Keith Smith's Memorials.
As part of a two-stage project, Stoddart completed the first phase of installing two cantilevered walkways. The outdoor infrastructure will facilitate patron transfers between the long-term car park and the terminal building that passes the Vickers Vimy Memorial. The custom perforated metal panel walkway are designed and engineered using mild steel that is hot-dip galvanised and powder coated to suit their location.
The Adelaide Airport walkway is inspired by the Stoddart Infrastructure Decco Walkway design with its unique large-span, curved cantilever roof design and modular bolt-together assembly. The method of frame application and full-length guttering enhances its structural aesthetic. Custom perforated metal panels with travel-themed motifs between the posts are also integrated to provide stunning visuals to the canopies. And for added comfort, Stoddart incorporated patron-focused LED courtesy lighting.
