In January, 77 year old Cronulla resident Joanne Barnes, was accidentally flung head first onto a concrete driveway by a friend's tilting garage door. She was standing in the driveway outside the garage door when it was opened from inside by the owner. The door flung her onto the neighbouring concrete driveway. She sustained minor head injuries with severe swelling and bruising in the incident. The fact that the garage door was not see through meant that the owner had no idea there was a person on the outside when she opened it.

Also in the Shire, a luxurious Sylvania apartment block with underground garaging has had a spate of break-ins in the past two years. Each time entry was forced via the individual tilting mesh garage doors and valuables were taken. This has prompted some residents to replace the mesh tilting doors with more secure mesh roller shutters.
