Living Education at Commonwealth Secondary School

Greenwalls are becoming increasingly popular around the world and one of Elmich's most recent projects saw a green wall installed at urban located Commonwealth Secondary School in Singapore.

As well as adding to the aesthetic appeal of the school, the greenwall also acts as a living educational tool to teach the students about environmental sustainability and to demonstrate to them that even with a small ground level footprint it is possible to create a pleasing environment that is conducive to learning.

There are two greenwalls within the school. One is at the main entrance hallway of the school while the other fronts the school assembly area. The walls consist of floor to ceiling VersiWall GP (VGP) mounting panels on which are mounted VGP trays.

An automated irrigation system works to keep the individual trays watered at programmed intervals for a pre-set duration, keeping maintenance time and work low. Excess water is discharged via drainage outlets on the bottom most row of trays to avoid any leakage. A horizontal base tube directs water away from the immediate area beneath the walls.

The Greenwall is an excellent feature for the school, providing students with relief from the urban environment while also giving them a source of stress relief and improving the overall aesthetics of the school.
