The custom access pits for Canning Dam Western Australian Water Authority by EJ Australia were an inventive solution by Tim Bottomley, Brisbane HaveStock founder. During the 90s, the demand for water increased in Western Australia. This called for an increase in capacity at the Canning Dam, a project by the Western Australia Water Authority.

EJ Australia, which was known as HaveStock at the time, was able to supply Class D (210kN) 1200mm wide covers for providing access to the dam. These access pits were not something available off-the-rack and had to be customised.

Since manufacturing takes place in Brisbane and the covers need to be transported to Perth, Tim Bottomley thought of a cost-effective solution. He committed funds for the covers' design, Finite Element Analysis, ultimate casting, and pattern making. Prototypes were flown in and tested at the QUT School of Civil Engineering before being assembled and sent to the Canning Dam.
