StreetPrint™ by MPS Paving Systems featured by Wallsend Railway

Last century the Wallsend Rail depot was a major transport hub for the Newcastle/Upper Central Coast region. Despite falling into disuse over the last half-century, the depot itself was maintained and heritage listed for its historical significance. The idea of the project was to put back the railway lines into the road & footpath as an historical statement.

Due to cost, construction time constraints, engineering and public liability issues, it was deemed unfeasible to replace actual tracks, and so they turned to StreetPrint™ as an option. Designs were proposed that we were able to match almost exactly for a template detailing tracks, sleepers and even ballast stone inserts.

Attached to this job was another site some 200m away where there was an old creek bed that was a weir during the 1800's. It is now a storm water culvert given the development of the area over the last 100 years. It was decided to place a series of wave-like patterns across the bridge that now exists at the site to give back the simulation of water flowing across it. Custom colours were specifically manufactured for this particular project. All designs were supplied and approved by the architects from Newcastle Council.

Both sites were installed in 2004, with resounding success, and complimentary feedback from local residents, business owners and all associated staff from both Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Councils.
