REVOLUTION® is the first sunscreen fabric for roller blinds in the world to be Cradle to Cradle Certified(TM) Gold and made from plants.

Currently the plant used by NatureWorks to form Ingeo (TM) is corn
- Less than 1/20th of 1% (0.05%) of the annual global corn needed for production
- 0.43kg of corn = 0.16kg Ingeo pellets = 1 square metre of Revolution fabric
- All corn is grown within 500 kilometres of the production plant
Ingeo can also be produced from sugar beets, sugar cane or any other vegetable or plant which contains sugar.
NatureWorks is currently in the process of building a new production plant in Thailand which will produce Ingeo from sugar beets because that is geographically the most available and cost effective resource.
After the use phase, the sunscreen fabric can be mechanically recycled. In mechanical recycling the plastic is processed back into pellets that can be re-used for a new application. Revolution products can also be incinerated with energy recovery. This can be used to produce green electricity or steam, since the carbon in the materials is from renewable raw materials.
If Revolution ends up in a landfill site it will not breakdown, so the carbon will be stored in the landfill and a positive contribution will therefore be made to climate change. There is an End of Life Option to convert Ingeo, but this is still being investigated in the case of Revolution. The same is true of the chemical recycling route, through which the polymer is broken down into lactic acid again.
REVOLUTION® meets the same performance standards as the conventional sunscreen fabrics. It is very dimensionally stable and durable, light fast comparable to PE5, and matches all polyester performance standards.
