EJ Opens Wide to Float a Boat

One of the world's largest multi-parts has been constructed to provide access to the Paris' unique subterranean canals.

The massive size of this custom made multi-part was to accommodate lowering a service barge into the kilometres of winding canals that serpentine underneath the city of love.

The Canal Saint-Martin is 4.5 kilometre long. It connects the Canal de l'Ourcq to the River Seine and runs underground between Bastille and Republique. Its original construction was ordered by Napoleon I in 1802.

Apart from its exceptionally large aperture, the multi-part features easy lifting hinged covers. The castings were manufactured in the French Picardie foundry with the frame and beam work engineered in our steel fabrication facility in Ardennes. Located on the French-Belgium border, this area is famous for being the site of World War II's Battle of The Bulge.

The impressive multi-part was pre-assembled to ensure its integrity at all stages of manufacture and it was prefilled with pavers in our factory to alleviate creating on site obstruction during busy traffic times.
