A Bentonite Waterstop and Post Injection Tube Combined for Joints in Concrete from Neoferma
Determining the correct waterstop is the first step in securing a watertight solution in your construction cold joints. Bentoject® is unique in that it combines a hydrophilic bentonite strip around the outside of a post injectable injection tube. An effective system for the sealing of construction joints in concrete.
There are two main types of waterstop: hydrophilic and hydrophobic. These are materials that draw or resist water. The kind of waterstop used in an application depends on factors like the type of structure, the construction demands and an evaluation of the site water. Some materials commonly used to produce waterstop includes plastics such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), metals such as copper or steel, and several natural or synthetic rubbers.
Bentonite waterstop is a concrete waterproofing material that attracts water. It swells up upon contact with water to effectively seal concrete construction joints. Bentonite waterstop has incomparable durability and high water absorption rate.
Bentoject® from Neoferma
Bentoject® is a hydrophilic bentonite strip combined with post-injectable tube, designed for sealing construction joints, cold joints (adjoining concrete sections) and working joints in concrete application. This waterproofing method is ideal where there is a concrete deficiency and where limited wall thickness is a concern. Bentoject® is also used to substitute combinations of two or more passive construction joint sealing systems.

Bentoject® is beneficial to use due to the following reasons:
- Bentonite waterstop application comes with a Bentoject® wire mesh profile that is simple and easy to install
- Bentoject® applies to irregular cold joints and construction joints
- The outer layer that is made up of bentonite rubber avoids immediate swelling of Bentoject®
- The injection of Bentoject® is done at the preferred time after the installation of bentonite waterstop system
- Installing Bentoject® will not damage or compromise the integrity of concrete structure
- The application of Bentoject® will not interfere with the regular building activities or schedule, hence, seamless operation to meet construction deadline
Bentoject® has three layers:
- The inner tube has a strengthened spiral of steel wire running through it to prevent the collapse of the tube that could lead to blockage of the injection channel.
- A filtrating membrane is placed between the spiral steel wire and outer skin to prevent silting up of the injection channel and avoid inward swelling of the bentonite waterstop.
- The outer layer is made with bentonite rubber. This layer is the active part of the waterstop system and is made with natural sodium bentonite and synthetic rubber. The outer skin swells upon contact with penetrating water. This swelling process will seal hairline cracks and small voids in the joint concrete application.
Bentoject® combines the preventative and counteractive element of bentonite waterstop. The non-polluting expansive outer skin of bentonite rubber does not dissolve in water. It swells upon contact with water to a maximum of 400% of its original dry volume. The microporous injection tube system can be injected under low pressure at any chosen time. Bentoject® prevents local leakage or honeycombing by functioning in places where the contact area was bigger than the total swelling volume of the bentonite rubber skin.
