Metal Protection with Passivation from Colorworks Mobile Painting![]() "Passivation" refers to the transformation of a metal's surface into the passive state, in which corrosion is strongly inhibited. Without Passivation almost all structural metals would undergo rapid corrosion not only in aggressive chemical mediums but also in the moist atmosphere of the earth or in fresh water. Passivation usually occurs through a chemical process that is designed for that metal. For example zinc is treated with a chrome solution to passivate the surface and stop white rust from forming. At Colorworks chrome is used to super passivate aluminium coils to help prevent oxides forming on the air conditioning condensing coils. Without the chrome passivate, aluminium oxide (corrosion) would form quickly on the coils due to the atmosphere it operates in. For optimum performance on air conditioning coils, super passivation should also be followed up with a superior anti corrosion protection barrier such as Coilguard® or Ecoshield®.
