Powered by nearly 15 years of experience, Hydro Construction Products has the ideal slip resistant linear drainage solution for a wide range of commercial, residential and public applications. The Australian-owned and operated company specialises in the design, production and distribution of world-class water management products for the national construction industry, as well as in New Zealand. Committed to a gold standard of quality, Hydro continues to expand their comprehensive catalogue, as well as their project portfolio in Australia and beyond.
Hydro was enlisted to participate in the large-scale infrastructure project for the Regional Rail Link (RRL), the 45.7km length of railway through the suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. The project brief cited major upgrades for the Footscray, West Footscray and Sunshine stations, aiming to improve metropolitan and regional rail capacity.
Hydro was the official supplier of LZ1000/60 from their MEA Solution Shallow channel range for the project. The limited depth drainage solution was installed on the station platforms, forecourts and overpasses. With a constant depth of 60mm and a clear width of 100mm, MEA Solution LZ1000/60 was the ideal solution to ensure the installation of a linear drain for varying depth restrictions of the site.

MEA Solution LZ1000/60 is manufactured from high-build polymer concrete. The widely used building material is composed of natural minerals, such as granite, basalt and quartz, bound together in a mixture of polyester resin. Polymer concrete is recognised as an industry standard for excellent mechanical strengths, dielectric properties and resistance to compression, moisture and chemicals - all in a lightweight package.
The edge rail of MEA Solution LZ1000/60 can be specified in galvanised steel, stainless steel or ductile iron. The channel includes an integrated outlet connector for added functionality. MEA Solution LZ1000/60 is rated to loading classes up to heavy-duty D210 in accordance with AS 3996-2006, enumerating the design requirements for access covers and grates in vehicular and pedestrian areas.
Hydro supplied MEA Solution LZ1000/60 with their new range of Heelguard grates. The ductile iron grates are built for optimal slip resistance in keeping with the project's key design considerations: passenger safety and accessibility. Heelguard grates make for a slip resistant linear drainage solution that ensures secure trafficability of commuters through the stations. In addition, the ductile iron build provided sleek visual appeal adding to the aesthetic value of the application.
Other Hydro products used in RRL include a variety of grated trenches and stormwater pits.
