Building Expansion Joint Systems at Westfield Garden City
Westfield Garden City is one of Brisbane's premier shopping centres, located in the major suburb of Upper Mount Gravatt. Better known as Garden City, the shopping centre has become the regional hub for housing the Brisbane City Council's public library; a post office; over 400 speciality stores and restaurants; and a bus interchange and the Upper Mount Gravatt Busway Station immediately below the site. Since opening in 1970, Westfield Garden City has undergone multiple renovations and expansions to improve its service to the community.
Unison Joints is proud to be one of the elite teams behind Garden City's recent expansion project in 2014. The team was enlisted to supply their quality Flexo CS (FxCS) architectural cover plate systems and Neo (NeA) control joints.
Approximately 470m of Unison's FxCS coverplate system is at work in Westfield Garden City. The building expansion joints are designed to isolate structural elements of the shopping centre from movement due to thermal changes, shrinkage and seismic activity.

Some of the top Unison sellers include:
1. DzT - Finished in a natural anodised alloy, DzT has a pan type coverplate, designed to house the floor finish, and therefore minimize it's visual presence. This expansion joint is popular with specialty shop fit-outs. It can facilitate multi-directional movement.

2. DzD - This low profile coverplate system has a number of features. Screws positioned under the coverplate not only hide the fasteners, but streamline the width of the system, making it narrower; as there is no need for an exposed flat face to house the screws. This expansion joint has high movement in all directions. The shallow, narrow profile makes the DzD ideal for use in polished concrete.

Unison Joints also supplied 9000m of NeA control joint for the Garden City project. Designed to accommodate the coefficient of expansion - the difference in thermal movement between substrates and hard floor finishes - the control joints are set out in a grid pattern throughout hard floors, in accordance with Australian and International building standards. Not intended for use over movement gaps, Ne joints are available in black, grey and off-white colours. The product range includes:

1. Ne - Ne are straight control joints, which are assembled using sheet metal. These are available in stainless steel, brass, and aluminium. The latter is the cost-efficient choice for excellent chemical stability and maintained flexibility over a broad temperature range. The 'insert' is solid neoprene, 6mm or 10mm wide.

2. Ne A - Ne A are flanged control joints, with angle trim available in aluminium. Unison's unique method of fabrication means that there are no staggered height sizes. Unison cut the NeA to a height of your choice during the last process of manufacture.
