Custom Milled Lightweight Ductile Iron Solid Top Covers by EJ Australia

After receiving a call concerning some old grease trap covers, the EJ Cover Care team visited the Keperra Country Golf Club to assist and advise. The covers in question were traditional heavy concrete infill covers made of grey cast iron. Estimated to be around 30 years old, these covers had received minimal maintenance over the years and had, as a result, formed a significant buildup of surface rust on the edges and underside of the lids and frames.

The build-up led to the covers sitting up approximately 20mm outside of their frames, causing a potential trip hazard and safety concern for the Keperra Country Golf Club staff.

Upon reaching the site, the EJ Cover Care team got to work shaving the grime and rust from the frame interior and cover edges. After a thorough cleaning with first a scraper and then a wire wheel, the covers were then ground down on-site to try and further improve the fit. The cover mating surfaces were then generously greased with manhole sealing grease before being repositioned into their frames.

Despite these efforts, the covers still wouldn't sit comfortably back into their frames. Heading back to the factory, the EJ team located three new suitable replacement lightweight ductile iron solid top covers. After custom milling the covers to precisely fit the existing club framework, the covers were transported back to Keperra Country Club grounds.

The framework was cleaned once more with a scraper and wire wheel before being painted with a cold galvanized black paint. Frames and covers were heavily greased with manhole sealing grease, and the covers were slid into position, with their top surfaces wiped down.

To complete the process, bolt hole locations and keyholes were sealed with EJ plastic plugs. Finally, the EJ team could consider the job successfully completed. With the covers now sitting comfortably in their frames, the Keperra Country Golf Club staff could continue business without the safety concern of the covers sitting up.
