THERMOMASS Insulated Concrete=High Thermal Mass=Low-energy Building

The meaning of the term 'low-energy building' refers to any building whose energy use is below the standards demanded by current building codes.

THERMOMASS Building Insulation System complies with Building Codes of Australia, Section J and is a unique, patented, pre-engineered, insulated concrete sandwich wall system which helps to achieve high thermal mass and a low-energy building. THERMOMASS concrete sandwich panels are comprised of three layers: an outer layer of concrete, a layer of XPS (extruded polystyrene) insulation and an internal layer of concrete. The two components of the THERMOMASS Building Insulation System are the extruded polystyrene insulation and high-strength, fibre-composite connectors, or fasteners. The connectors are non-conductive and eliminate thermal transfer between the inside and outside concrete layers.

The 'thermal envelope' defines the conditioned or living space in a building. Thermal insulation allows walls, floors and ceilings to stay closer to room temperature, reducing energy use and increasing comfort by the use of the building's structure as thermal mass to dampen temperature swings.

Thermal bridges are points in the building envelope that allow heat conduction to occur. Since heat flows through the path of least resistance, thermal bridges can contribute to poor energy performance. A common construction design is based on stud walls, which are typically fastened with metal, and in which thermal bridges are common in wood or steel studs and joists. Heat conduction can be eliminated by eliminating thermal bridges.

The THERMOMASS insulated concrete sandwich wall system can be used in site-cast, tilt-up and plant precast concrete panels and is suitable for both commercial and residential projects. The highly energy efficient THERMOMASS insulated concrete sandwich wall system will retain 99.7% of the R-value of the insulation and reduce your energy costs by as much as 50%.
