Engineered wood is a popular layered product made with a thinner top layer of hardwood, bonded to other high-quality plywood layers, designed to prevent the floor from shifting during expansion and contraction cycles.

Whilst Solid Boards are made of solid timber planks (same composition as parquetry flooring) with many quality advantages as is made of a single layer of natural and renewable tongue and grooved wood and extremely durable if sealed properly.

The advantage of using a solid board is the number of times it can be sanded and refinished, having a direct effect on its life expectancy.

Wood as a natural product tends to expand and contract as moisture and temperature levels rise and fall, but that doesn't mean Solid Boards cannot be installed in kitchens or bathrooms contrary to urban myths.

In addition to the kiln drying process, the other trick is to site-finish these hardwood floors areas rather than installing pre-finished hardwood.

Also, site-finished flooring protects the underlying wood better than pre-finished by preventing water from seeping between the planks and screen and recoating is possible as an option for floor care and maintenance.
