Dulux Colour Awards - judges announced


Dulux has this week confirmed its impressive judging panel for the 2010 Dulux Colour Awards.

The announcement continues the Awards' reputation for appointing highly respected, skilled individuals, with the 2010 panel confirmed as follows:

Carey Lyon, Director, Lyons
Australian Institute of Architects Member
Having graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1982 with a Bachelor of Architecture (Hons), followed by a Master of Architecture at RMIT in 1992, Carey Lyon has won more than 25 state, national and international awards for outstanding architectural projects, during a career that spans 30 years.

Honourable accolades include him been elected as National President of the Australian Institute of Architects for 2005/2006 and chairing the Venice Architecture Biennale Committee from 2004 through 2006. He is currently a Board Member of the Green Buildings Council of Australia, and chairs its Technical Steering Committee. In 2006 he was recognised for his contribution to architectural teaching, practice and design research by been appointed an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at RMIT University in Melbourne. Recent awards for his projects include AIA National Awards for Sustainable Architecture (in 2005 and 2007), and awards for major public buildings.

Carey is a Co-Director of Lyons along with his brothers Corbett and Cameron, Neil Appleton and Adrian Stanic.

Alison Page, Interior Designer
A Tharawal woman, Alison is one of a handful of Aboriginal interior designers. Having completed a Bachelor of Interior Design (Honours) from the University of Technology in Sydney in 1997, Alison has spent the last decade managing the interior design arm of Merrima Design, Australia's only indigenous architectural practice.

In this role, Alison is able to explore and engage her passion for designing spaces that work in harmony with the environment, and connect meaningfully with people. A defining moment in her career came when Alison met with Douglas Cardinal, a Native Canadian Architect who prompted her to express cultural identity through contemporary design.

Alison is also a judge on ABC Television's 'The New Inventors'.

Vincent Fantauzzo, Artist
Having completed his Masters of Fine Arts RMIT at the age of 28, Vincent has gone on to become a highly lauded, exceptionally respected member of the art community and is represented by Dianne Tanzer Gallery + projects. Using oil on canvas and drawing from other mediums such as photography and film, Vincent manipulates light and dark, colour and shadow, to create depth and intensity to his work. It is this regard for the role, impact and influence of colour in context to an overall aesthetic that is sure to provide a compelling critique of this year's DCA submissions.

Vincent entered the 2008 Archibald Portrait Prize with a stunning work of the late Heath Ledger, winning him not only runner-up status but also the People's Choice award. That same year he was declared Artist of the Year in GQ Man of the Year Awards. His entry of the child actor Brandon Walters in Baz Luhrmann's epic 'Australia' last year won him the People's Choice award. He was also voted one of Melbourne's most influential people by (melbourne) magazine.

The 24th Dulux Colour Awards will now include design professionals practicing in and from New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji.

2010 entrants will be short-listed by a panel of internal judges led by Andrea Lucena- Orr before being reviewed by this acclaimed panel of individuals.

Applications for the 2010 Dulux Colour Awards are available online via www.dulux.com.au/colourawards, with submissions due by Friday 19th February 2010.

The Gala Awards Ceremony (invitation only) will take place at the Guildford Lane Gallery on Wednesday 31st March 2010.
