The industry's revenue is forecast to total $31.3 billion in 2014-15, up 3.5% on the previous year due mainly to stronger investment in hotel developments, warehousing facilities and transport terminals.

Confidence in the commercial property market struggled to recover from the instability in the global financial markets in the late 2000s. However, investment has gradually returned on the back of improving consumption, low interest rates and stronger commercial property yields.

Several major commercial construction projects have recently commenced in Sydney, notably the Barangaroo development and the redevelopment of Darling Harbour, which may result in a relative concentration of industry activity in this market over the next few years.

The building industry has already started reflecting on yearly sales and evaluating new design strategies for the year ahead.
