Water Smart Ecoskim Australian Standard Certified from Waterco

The award-winning, eco-friendly pool skimming device, the Ecoskim, has been given the green light by independent testing authority, Queensland Testing Laboratory. It means the Ecoskim complies with the Pool & Spa Suction Fitting Standard, AS1926.3-2010.

The Ecoskim attaches to existing pool skimmer boxes to allow for greater fluctuations in pool water levels due to evaporation and heavy rainfall - while improving water quality. And further enhancements to the Ecoskim have ensured that no body entrapment could occur under any foreseeable circumstances.

The compliance also represents a great leap forward for the Ecoskim, which has an official listed flow rate of 312LPM.

In addition to being at the safety forefront, the Australian designed and made Ecoskim has been made with the environment top of mind. Its environmental credentials saw it receive a Smart Approved Watermark and be named 2011 Product of the Year.

The Ecoskim has a floating, self-adjusting mouth that saves water by allowing pools to operate above and below existing skimmer box water levels. Compared with a standard skimmer box, it means that fewer water top ups are required due to the device's floating design and continued operation.

Ecoskim inventor Mark Davies calls the product evolutionary.

"Skimmer boxes, in their current format, have been around for about 30 - 40 years, and the overall concept of how they operate has remained unchanged," says Mark. "Whilst over the last decade our attitudes to water usage and sustainability have changed dramatically, skimmer boxes have not evolved to a degree needed to cater for these changing needs. The Ecoskim was borne out of the devastating drought in south east Queensland which occurred several years ago, and its design means that it works extremely well as a standalone water saving device. So much so that our first trial pool still hasn't needed town water after six years - three of which were the last part of the Brisbane drought."

Waterco has also fitted Ecoskim to a number of trial pools, and they, too, have not had the need for town water top ups for extensive periods. "And as the Ecoskim can be used with a pool cover, water savings can be further optimised, as it increases the time between pool top ups," adds Bryan Goh, Waterco's group marketing director.
