Tips for Surface Preparation using SEALTAQ® UNIVERSAL BAND

Sealtaq® is a polyester non-woven fibre material that resolves problems regarding water ingress, air tightness and corrosion. Sealtaq® works for any infrastructure may it be residential, commercial, telecommunications, electrical, transportation, wastewater, industrial or agricultural. After applying Sealtaq®, the result is a flat and smooth surface that is ready for painting or coating applications.

How to Prepare the Surface for Sealtaq® Application

General Instructions - much like any other coating products, the area to be coated needs to be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil and dust. Removal of all contamination including mill scale is required. Wiping with a clean, damp washcloth, followed by a dry one is recommended.

Degreasing Surfaces - Isopropyl alcohol diminishes any kind of oil or grease that is present on the surface. Small surfaces can easily be wiped with wash cloth dunked in isopropyl alcohol while larger surfaces can be degreased using a strong solution of bleach or detergent.

Concrete Surfaces - the surface is required to be set to at least 5% maximum residual moisture content. The concrete has to be dry, clean, and free from grease, oil, and dust. Free stagnant water must be removed, excessive cracks need to be repaired, and small voids and exposed aggregate must be resurfaced with a suitable fast curing, high-strength, non-shrinking product. In cases that concrete stays wet, it is recommended to apply an SFL-primer under the Sealtaq® Roofing Band.

Cleanliness Check - to check if the surface is ready for application, take a 150mm length of Sealtaq® Universal Band, take off the release foil and fold the band back for about 25mm. Apply the band to the surface and leave it on for five minutes.
