Merinda Park Station Public Artwork Commission with AxolotlThe Government of Victoria, Australia has a program to rebuild 51 railway stations in Melbourne while also removing 110 level crossings. Part of the Level Crossing Removal Project is the City of Casey. Axolotl is proud to be part of the Merinda Park Station Pulib Artwork Commission with artist Catherine Woo.
Entitled, "Reflections" this artwork is featured on the soffit of the station platforms. Its design is based on the patterns created by water droplets falling onto still water. This amazing piece pays tribute to the ecological history of the area, it used to be a wetland before the European settlement.
This complex artwork requires 486 unique panels that were individually designed, engineered, and then fabricated. 3D surveys were used for the comprehensive design development to aid in the layout of the artwork. This was especially helpful as the ripples also needed to be positioned correctly with the station's columns.
