An iconic sight, the design of the white shaded structures was conceived to mimic a winged aircraft shape using white fabric membranes to provide protection for travellers against the sun and the rain. Its purpose is also to create a clutter-free, calm and serene environment for those arriving and departing the airport.

At the present, the Perth International Airport Terminal features a beautiful and functional Makmax shaded structure featuring:

1. Two lightweight winged structures that incorporate PTFE fibreglass membranes supported by a structural steel framework.
2. PTFE membranes "wrapped" around the structure to convey a three-dimensional canopy shape.
3. Using high-performance PTFE fabric and Sheerfill V from Saint-Gobai, it offers high durability and light transmission.
4. A beautiful illumination using LED lighting is visible at night enhanced by the membrane's translucent properties.
5. Ultrabond aluminium cladding for the columns to produce strong, solid 3D shapes which complement the planar and angular shape of the membrane.
