The Tumbalong Green Amphitheatre in Darling Harbour stands as a testament to architectural innovation and engineering prowess. MakMax Australia played a pivotal role in this project, tasked with designing and engineering the architectural fabric cladding that envelops the striking amphitheatre roof. This included intricate three-dimensional form-finding and patterning of the fabric, ensuring it harmonized seamlessly with the steel and Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) elements.

Designed by Hassell, the amphitheatre features a wide, cantilevered shell anchored at minimal points, creating a lightweight and airy structure. Supported by CLT and clad in a high-tech PVC membrane, the roof spans 1100 square meters, blending aesthetics with functionality.

The choice of Serge Ferrari Flexlight Xtrem TX30-II for the membrane ensures durability and optimal performance in outdoor settings, maintaining its shape and strength against environmental elements. This project showcases how advanced materials and innovative design can create iconic, functional spaces that enhance urban landscapes.

The Tumbalong Green Amphitheatre exemplifies a harmonious blend of architectural beauty and structural integrity, enriching the cultural fabric of Sydney's vibrant waterfront. Find out more about this project by visiting www.makmax.com.au today.
