Axolotl is happy to announce the conclusion of Catherine Woo's integrated art commission, the most recent Level Cross Removal project in Victoria. The South Eastern Program Alliance made up of the project partners Laing O'Rourke, Jacobs, and architects BKK, commissioned the artwork for the City of Casey and delivered it along with T Projects.

The idea of Reflection is central to the complex panel design and fabrication project, with the planar canopy highlighting the geological strata below and the rippling design reflecting the area's former dependence on water. The artwork makes use of the highly visible soffit on both station platforms to depict a period of the region's ecological history and to provide visual interest to the structure, which will in turn reflect the surrounding environment today.

The new building's roof features a pattern based on the rippling effects of water droplets or the movement of the reeds or trees that previously flourished in the wetland, which was then a defining characteristic of its environment. As a result, the concentric circles that emerge from the points where the soffit's columns meet the ceiling become the centrepiece of the arrangement.

A thorough design development phase, working with the artist and client to achieve the intended concept, was included in the final design and layout of the artwork. This was made possible by 3D surveys of the platforms.

Reflections is a challenging piece of art to accomplish; it is made up of 486 individual panels, each of which was designed, built, and manufactured using the best materials and technologies to provide a lasting piece of art for the local public to enjoy.
