Waterco launches commercial MultiCyclone - the MultiCyclone70XL

Following the global success of its multi award-winning MultiCyclone technology for domestic swimming pools, International water treatment and swimming pool equipment manufacturer Waterco has officially launched a new version designed specifically for commercial use. And demand for the MultiCyclone 70XL is already strong.

An Australian innovation, the MultiCyclone is a pre-filtration device, which is designed to capture up to 80 per cent of the incoming dirt load prior to the main filter, which then significantly reduces filter maintenance and saves backwash water - not to mention improving pool water circulation.

"The MultiCyclone 70XL has been specially created to handle larger water capacities for commercial and industrial sectors," explains Victor Quijada, Waterco's water treatment product manager. "It's designed to handle 1600 litres per minute, compared with its domestic 'cousin', which handles up to 500 litres per minute."

Since being unveiled in late 2012 at the Piscine pool show in Lyon, France, demand for the MultiCyclone 70XL has been strong.

"In recent times we have installed a number of combined domestic MultiCyclone units in commercial swimming pools and aquatic enclosures, and it further highlighted the need for a specific commercial solution," Quijada says.

"Our decision has been vindicated by the fact that we have already sold a number of the commercial units in Europe and have also had interest from Dubai to use the system in commercial swimming pools."

Ease of operation, significant benefits

The MultiCyclone 70XL works on the basis of centrifugal water filtration, and there are no moving parts to wear and tear, and no filter media to clean or replace.

Incoming water is guided by a diverter plate so that it enters multiple hydro cyclones tangentially, generating a strong centrifugal effect. This spins the sediment out to the hydro cyclone's wall and then spirals it down to the sediment chamber, while the cleansed water spirals upwards.

The MultiCyclone pre-filters up to 80 per cent of the filter's incoming dirt load prior to the main filter. This reduces the load on the filter, thus reducing the frequency of filter maintenance by up to 80 per cent and saving backwash water. And as the MultiCyclone intercepts more and more sediment, the flow rate remains unchanged, improving pool water circulation.

The accumulation of sediment can be visibly monitored through the MultiCyclone 70XL's clear sight glass. And the MultiCyclone 70XL is cleaned by simply opening the purge valve, there is no filter media to clean or replace.
