Paving Paint Melbourne from Viponds Paints

Our Paving paint is a ready to use polyurethane enamel that dries to a full gloss finish. Formulated for hardness and durability to protect high traffic areas.

For use on interior and exterior surfaces such as cement, concrete, timber or metal where a hard wearing finish is required. Use it on floors, verandahs, steps, etc. to beautify and protect.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Good preparation ensures the finished paint work will look better and last longer. Below are some preperation tips for various surfaces:

New Concrete
Allow new concrete to cure for at least 3 months then acid etch. Ensure the surface is clean and dry. Apply Vipond's Acrylic Concrete and Masonry Sealer if efflorescence is a potential problem.

Old Concrete
Remove all oil and grease with a concrete cleaner, wire brush loose and powdery concrete then acid etch. Treat mould with with Vipond's Stop Mould. Heavily stained areas or worn areas from tyre traffic impregnated with rubber and oil that cannot be cleaned sufficiently should not be painted.

On very smooth steel trowelled concrete mechanical sanding is recommended or acid etch twice. To determine the suitability of concrete for painting please read the Vipond's Fact Sheet "PAINTING CONCRETE"

Timber
Sand timber and dust off and apply Viponds Oil Pink Primer and allow 48 hours to dry.

Metal
Clean the surface with Vipond's Prep Wash and treat any rust with a phosphoric rust converter. Prime the metal with Vipond's Zinc Phosphate Metal Primer. On galvanized metal or aluminium prime with Vipond's Acrylic Metal Primer.

Previously Painted Surfaces
Thoroughly clean the surface of oil and grease, remove all flaking paint and sand glossy surfaces. Test paint a small area to ensure that the paving paint will adhere to the existing paint.

If there is a problem remove existing paint and acid etch concrete and prime bare timber and metal. An adhesion test should be undertaken on pre-coloured concrete, pattern paving and stamped concrete.

Acid Etching
All bare concrete should be etched to assist with adhesion. Prepare a solution of 1 part spirits of salts (33% hydrochloric acid) and 3 parts water. Wet the concrete with water then apply the solution liberally and scrub the surface with a stiff broom.

Allow at least 10 minutes for the solution to react before thoroughly washing the surface with water to remove all traces of reacted salts. Allow the surface to dry completely before painting. Ensure adequate protective clothing is worn.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Our paving paint is available in 10 litre, 4 litre and 1 litre. One litre will cover approximately 14 square metres per coat.

Anti-skid and matting agents can be added as required.

Under normal drying conditions (20°C and low humidity) Vipond's Paving Paint will be surface dry within 2 hours. Recoat after 16 hours. It may be walked on after 12 hours but is preferable to leave 24 hours. Do not apply if temperature is below 10ºC or there is high humidity.
