Here is the solution. We propose a game of base colours which are all intermixable. The colours are the most currently used in stained timber surfaces, but you are not limited to theses colours alone.

At Whittle Waxes in Ringwood, Victoria we are able to match and create colours unique to the individual client's needs.

Here is what you simply need to do.

1. If you desire a specific colour, just provide some tangible samples of the timber you will be staining. A good size is anywhere up to a meter in length or multiple boards for trial and error samples of colour.

2. A tangible sample of the colour you desire, cannot be sent by computer, it needs to be supplied with the timber. We cannot make samples off descriptions on the phone, everyone has their own unique way of seeing colours.

3. The sample will need to be sanded to whatever grit the whole floor will be sanded to. If the floor is sanded differently to the sample the floor can yield different colour intensity. Prepare the sample the same as the floors surface will be at the time of application.

With different species of timber each stain will give a different result. This is why we need you to clarify what timber you will be working with. Stains often have a better impact on lighter timbers than darker timbers.

Our natural pigments, in which most are made of coloured clays, are reduced into a powder form and mixed with an oil base for easy application. When applied using the following application techniques, there should be no overlapping or applicator marks. Using natural pigments, which are colour fast, will enhance the grain of the wood and strengthen the colours. They can also be used to mask or accentuate the characteristics of the timber.
