Aspect stainless steel balustrading by S&A Stairs

S&A Stairs, builders of quality staircases, are a true Australian success story and for over 85 years been the trusted colleague of Australia's quality home builders who wanted something extra. Our innovative design philosophy and attention to detail makes a perfect match for any stunning home, in either traditional or contemporary style.

Contemporary staircase design challenges the designer and stair builder on different levels altogether and takes commitment from both parties. Contemporary or modern stair design lets the mind run free to create something that is different and original, or at least it should. These designs can be gloriously simple using clean lines and unusual materials. They can also be curved, straight or just about anything you want.

A popular choice in home building today is horizontal Stainless steel balustrading. The Stainless steel offers durability, strength without the maintenance. The Aspect with its tubular horizontal rails allows for spans that keep the openness that is demanded with this type of balustrading. For this reason the Aspect does not have many of the deflection and tension problems come with wire balustrading.

The Aspect Balustrading is versatile and can be configured to commence and terminate using a combination of both timber posts and stainless steel uprights or simply Stainless steel uprights. With typically six horizontal rails for the level and four rails for the flight sections these arrangements not only imparts a sense of lightness, but also appears to increase the since of space which can be a premium in the modern home.

The lateral strength is achieved by using a large plate to the base of the upright which allow for four fixings. The fixings are concealed by a cover plate. This design means that many balustrades can offer a continuous handhold will not require newel posts.

The Aspect Balustrading is also versatile with regards to the handrail and can be configured with both square and moulded handrails. In this case the handrail (HR 04 ex75*50) has been used, it is manufactured of warm, rich Australian hardwood, Victorian Ash. Using Australian hardwood gives the balustrading durability and strength.

The Aspect balustrade complements the design of this staircase perfectly, and here is working with a closed stair and closed stringers, solid timber landing and stacked bullnose steps.
