Extruded Polystyrene Is The Perfect Solution To BCA Part J Requirements

In 2006 there was a fundamental change to the Building Code Of Australia (BCA), with the focus on reducing energy consumption in commercial buildings. This change has caused immense upheaval in the building industry because many traditional ways of construction no longer comply with the building code, so these have to be modified or no longer used.

Foamular Extruded Polystyrene is a ridged insulation board, with high R-values, high strength and high water-resistance. Foamular has been successfully utilized in a variety of projects, including the Jane Foss Russel Building at USYD, the CDOP4 Building in Brisbane and the Ice House Icerink in Docklands Melbourne.

Park J was introduced with the objective to "reduce greenhouse gas emissions by efficiently using energy". This meant insulation had to be increased in most newly constructed walls and roofs in order to comply with regulations.

One area greatly affected was precast panel manufacturing. Precast panels are traditionally a quick and cost effective method of construction, but once erected they now required insulation to be installed, adding greatly to labour costs and schedule blowouts.

Foamular Extruded Polystyrene can actually be installed while the slab is poured. Its patented low conductivity ties fix the Foamular to the drying concrete and limit temperature fluctuations. Including the Foamular within the panel also limits thermal bridging by providing a continuous layer of high quality insulation, eliminating thermal bridging and improving energy efficiency.

Foamular Extruded Polystyrene is especially suited in boosting the R-values of walls, including cavity walls, double brick walls, concrete brick walls and tilt up construction. Foamular can be fixed in a variety of methods depending on the application.
