NDIS Therapy Supports by CareVision A new report shows the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is reducing demand for certain Medicare-funded services, even though it was never intended to replace healthcare. Researchers analysed anonymous data from hundreds of thousands of participants, linking NDIS records with Medicare and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme claims. They tracked GP and specialist visits, mental health and allied health services, and prescriptions for up to 18 months after participants joined the scheme. While doctor-led appointments, such as GP visits or mental health prescriptions, stayed largely unchanged, Medicare-funded services overlapping with NDIS supports declined. Mental health sessions fell 13% per participant per quarter, allied health 8%, equating to nearly $27 million in combined Medicare savings and reduced out-of-pocket costs nationally. The findings suggest participants prefer NDIS-funded therapies, which are often more flexible, comprehensive, and fully funded. For providers, understanding these shifts is key. Platforms like CareVision help manage claims and care plans efficiently, supporting participants while adapting to changing service demand. To find out more, visit carevision.com today.
